Coffee provides a derisory calorie count, about 4kcal per cup, which rise up to 20kcal for a macchiato or a slightly sweetened coffee. Its substantial lack of calories is only one of the reasons that makes coffee an excellent ally of low-calorie diet. It also has the ability to alleviate the sense of hunger and recent studies have shown that its assumption can lead to a slight acceleration of basal metabolism. Coffee also has draining and anti-edematous effects that helps contrasting water retention and swelling.
